Genealogy DNA . . .

I ordered a test kit for Malcolm yesterday. After much deliberation I decided on FamilyTreeDNA. They offer several options so thought the Y-DNA37+mtDNA Plus for $244USD sounded pretty good, especially with the Aussie dollar so strong against the Greenback.

Now we sit back and wait for it to arrive.

I'm especially interested in the ethnic and geographical info it might produce.
I don't pretend to know anything about genealogical DNA, science was never my strong point, in fact, science was never a point of mine at all!

I'm feeling a bit sad that I don't have any male Zanker mouths to swab for my mother's family. Great Grand Father was German and came from a town that is now in Poland, would love to see the results of DNA on that swab. Having said that, I can contribute via my mtDNA.

mtDNA is passed from a mother to her children and can be used to track migration. It rarely changes. Both males and females carry the mtDNA whereas only the males have the Y-DNA which tells the story of the male ancestry through his father, grand father etc......yep, clear as pea soup.
